Meet the healthy side of the Chomp House Grill

Sam Haught Chomp House Grill

While spending the day exploring around our Gator and Wildlife Park or on an airboat ride through the swamp, lunch time will come around pretty quick. Many of our visitors decide to stop by the Chomp House Grill for some Florida favorite dishes instead of leaving the park for lunch. The Chomp House Grill at Wild Florida is known for some of the best BBQ and swamp-inspired treats around, but there’s also a healthy side to our on-site restaurant you may not know about. We like to have options for everyone that comes to visit, so we offer gluten-free items, too!

The start of a new year means resolutions to fulfill. For some, that means reading or traveling more, and for others, it means a healthier diet. But who says that eating better should be boring? Certainly not us! Although there are many ways to get creative with a healthy diet, we like to relate everything back to the swamp… after all, it’s what we love most in the world!

Vacation is all about having fun and enjoying yourself, which usually entails sleeping too much and indulging in some of your favorite foods, right? The food specialties are different everywhere you travel, and no vacation is complete until you get to try it all. Just like Texas is known for the best steaks and burgers, and Chicago is known for its hot dogs, Florida cooks up some of the best southern food… or as we call it, southern comfort food! Although eating out is one of the many perks of vacationing, preparing food at your vacation home is a fun activity for the whole family to get involved in. With a happy, delicious ending!

Recipes from the swamp: How to cook turtle

Sam Haught Chomp House Grill

Like alligator meat, turtle meat is considered a delicacy and can be hard to find unless you live in an area surrounded by water. It’s also considered to be an exotic meat, so it can get a little pricey. On average, boneless turtle meat costs between $25 to $35 a pound and can usually only be purchased online. Turtle meat is said to taste like veal, especially when fried, but even on the more expensive weeks, veal isn’t that pricey, so that has to mean something, right? A lot of work goes into cleaning the meat before preparing it, so we recommend purchasing it ready to cook to avoid some of the hassle.
